Sayoc KaliThe Art of the BladeSayoc Kali - The Art of the Blade - is a Filipino fighting art focused on the use of edged weapons. The strong focus has made the art one of the most thorough and well-structured blade systems in the world today. In Sayoc Kali you learn how to use a single blade, with progression to the use of multiple blades and projectiles, in conjunction with empty-hands training. Included in this are proper blade handling and blade edge discipline, drawing of blades, vital target discrimination, unarmed knife defense and disarms, projectiles and knife throwing, pressure-point manipulation, environmental tactics, and a system for team work for multiple man situations. Students are also taught critical injury management (tactical medicine). Sayoc Kali is ALL BLADE - ALL THE TIME. The system is taught in a three part methodology, in which each part is developed and integrated fully into the whole. These three parts are Sayoc Kali, Sayoc Silak and Sayoc Bakal. Training usually starts in the Sayoc Kali portion. Sayoc KaliEdged weapons training cannot be done very effectively without the presence of a moving, thinking and reacting target, and thus pre-arranged solo forms have no place in Sayoc Kali. The majority of training is instead generated from two person or multiple man training drills designed to develop attacking and counterattacking skills in an edged weapon encounter. These drills include "Vital Templates", or road maps to vital areas of attack on the body, as well as "Transition Drills". Each drill includes a template of knife attack to specific vital areas (including different angles and approaches to entry), the correct conditioned responses to these attacks, and various isolated techniques of attack and defense. These drills are highly sophisticated, incorporating conditioned responses, extensive use of the live hand to grab, check and become involved with joint attacks, limb immobilizations, strikes and grappling.Because Sayoc Kali is an energy-based system, contact is essential. Thus, all training drills have a free-style component to them. Free-sparring and realistic combat scenario practise are also important training tools. The drills also contain a basic teaching formula, and is primarily concerned with the development of the "Feeder". The feeder-based mentality of Sayoc Kali is best described by answering this oft-asked question: "How would you defend against a guy with a knife?" Feeder-based mentality : "I have the Knife" In other words, the entire training, learning and teaching system in Sayoc Kali is directed toward the development of the attacker. Sayoc SilakThe Sayoc Silak system is the second part of the training - the counter offensive - and contains the second learning formula. This training revolves around the "Receiver" (or the "defender") and is started with empty hands. Silak provides for the development of unarmed skills, footwork and body mechanics necessary to trap, lock, position, and disarm the feeder or aggressor's blades.Sayoc BakalThe Sayoc Bakal system is the third aspect taught. It is comprised around the use of projectiles in combat. It works as a complete system and complements and enhances both Sayoc Kali and Sayoc Silak. For more information about Sayoc Kali, please visit www.sayoc.com.
